Shirley Ann (Rutty) Bowie of Hampstead, NH passed peacefully in her home on September 23, just 2 weeks shy of her 90th birthday.

Shirley was born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 9, 1934 to Francis and Theresa "Tess" (Lebert) Rutty.  A graduate of Valley Regional High School, she was a majorette in the Deep River Drum and Bugle Corps. She and her "Bernie" moved from Clinton, Connecticut in 2002 to be closer to their son and his family. With Bernie at her side, she enjoyed traveling abroad, across the US, and to North Myrtle Beach, SC in the winter. Affectionately known as Grammie and GG to many, she loved cooking and baking for family, was an avid reader of romance novels, and collected snowmen and cardinals. Her greatest joys were spending time with family and going out to eat with friends.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents and her sister Jeane, and her husband of 40 happy years, Bernard William Bowie.  She was the mother of the late Walter Thomas Colbert.  She leaves behind her daughter-in-law Heather Brown Colbert and her beloved granddaughters Stephanie Colbert and her fiancé Matthew Wesly, Carolyn Hamilton and her husband Max, and many adored cousins and extended family.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 30th, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am Monday in the funeral home. Interment will take place on Monday in the Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead.
