Shirley R. (Bernhard) Lee, 91, a longtime resident of Salem, NH, formerly of Londonderry, NH and Methuen, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in the Salemhaven Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born in Methuen, the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah (Fortin) Bernhard.
Shirley was educated in the Methuen School system and graduated from Edward F. Searles High School with the class of 1945. She had worked for Western Electric in North Andover, MA and for the IRS in Andover, MA. She enjoyed card-playing, line-dancing, bingo, and taking trips with the Seniors of Salem NH. She was a member of the IRS Retirees and a former communicant of St. Joseph Church, Salem.
She is survived by two sons; John Lee and wife Linda of Florida; and David Lee of Thailand; and by her daughter, Brenda Lee and husband Michael Kovalchik of Arizona. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kristen Rabinowitz and husband Larry and two great-grandchildren; Ryleigh Erin and Ryan Patrick; by a sister, Edna Moran of Lawrence, MA and also by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Lee; her loving daughter, Karen J. Lee; and by her brothers Harry, Charles, Thomas and Richard Bernhard; and by sisters, Charlotte Norman and Thelma Bacigalupo.
A visiting hour will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH. A funeral service will follow Thursday at 11:00am in the funeral home. The family would like to thank Salemhaven Nursing and Rehab for all their loving care given to Shirley in recent years. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Shirley's name may be directed to the MSPCA, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or to a charity of one's choice.
