Stephen Casey, 72, of Salem, NH passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, May 5th.
Steve grew up in Arlington, MA and graduated from Arlington High School, Class of 1969. He served his country in the US Air Force. He retired as an installation and construction engineer after 30 years at Verizon Communications, then he delivered flowers for Ford Flower Company for 18 years, always in shorts no matter the weather conditions.
Steve enjoyed golfing, especially in the Fire Department Dog Days Tournament, restoring and showing his antique cars, which won several prizes at car shows.
Steve was a sports fan, he loved baseball and tried out for the Red Sox in 1969, he played on several softball leagues and coached little league for many years. He coached the 1992 Little League All Star team and 2 of his players went on to the Triple-A. He also loved fishing.
Steve had breakfast most Sunday mornings at Sammy J's with his treasured daughter, Shauna. Steve's compassion, loving heart, sense of humor and trivia was shared with dozens weekly through his grapevine phone ministry. "May the God of hope fill you will all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." Romans 16:13
Steve is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sheila Casey of Salem, NH; his daughter, Shauna Casey and fiancé Ian Mastroianni of Salem, NH; his mother, Celine Casey of Arlington, MA; his sister, Christine Tucker of Groton, MA; his sister-in-law, Leila Villeneuve of Berlin, NH and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father Daniel Casey and his brother, Daniel Casey.
There are no calling hours. The memorial service will be May 23rd at 10 AM at Centerpoint Community Church, 101 School St, Salem, NH. Please arrive by 9:45AM. Arrangements are under the care of Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Salem, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Stephen's memory may be sent to: Centerpoint Community Church Youth Group and Young Adult Ministries. 101 School St., Salem, NH 03079. Please make checks payable to Centerpoint Community Church and put Youth and Adult Ministries in the memo line.
