Stephen "Steve"
P. Kutny
d. Apr 23, 2022
Salem
Stephen "Steve" Kutny of Salem, NH, passed away on April 23, 2022 at the age of 80. Although a failing heart took him from this world, his kind heart and generous spirit will remain a beacon to all who knew him.
Steve met his loving wife Mary Sheehan Kutny nearly fifty years ago in Boston. Married for 48 years, Mary and Steve raised four children Mary Ann Kutny of Silver Spring, MD, Peter (and Carrie) Kutny of Ellsworth, ME, Katie (and Justin) Pritchard of Wakefield, MA, and Lizzie (and Brian) Farnell of Denver, CO. He also adored and was loved fiercely by his five grandchildren Ellie, Brendan and Norah Pritchard, and Bridget and Erin Kutny. He also shared a deep bond with his sister Ann (and John) Vey of Merrimack, NH. Steve also counted his best friend Bill Corley and his wife Kathy and their children of Reading, MA as his family. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary (Lechman) Kutny of Brooklyn, NY.
Steve's generous spirit, adventurous nature and slightly stubborn streak made him a natural helper, loyal friend and brother, and world-class father and grandfather. One only had to ask (though often a mere passing mention would suffice) and Steve would be there: no challenge too daunting and no distance too far. A lover of nature (and naps), Steve was always up for an adventure. He loved fishing, boating, traveling and hunting especially with his kids and grandkids.
Public service was a constant throughout his life. He began his career as a Redemtorist priest including serving at Mission Church in Boston. After leaving the priesthood he worked as a biomedical engineer before spending more than thirty years ensuring low income families had safe and affordable housing through his work at the Woburn Housing Authority and the Community Service Network.
Steve's long, loving and adventure-filled life will be celebrated with a mass at Mary Queen of Peace, 200 Lawrence Rd. in Salem, NH at 10 am on April 28, 2022. Visiting hours are from 6 – 9 pm on April 27, 2022, at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. in Salem, NH. The family welcomes donations to Lazarus House Ministries, P.O. Box 408, Lawrence, MA, 01842, as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
