Waldemar Arndt, age 91, of North Andover passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2019 surrounded by friends and family.

Born in Southern Poland to the late Gustav and Emma Arndt, the family fled to Germany in the 40's to escape the Russian army front. It was there, in Fritzlar Germany, that he met and married his wife, Maria Erika.

Educated as an architect in Germany, he received his degree at Staatsbauschule. In 1952, he and Erika came to Lawrence, MA. Shortly after arriving, Waldi began working for Lawrence Pumps, Inc. In 1962, while going to school at night, he received an honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. He retired in 1992 after 40 years of service as the Senior Vice President and the Chief Operating Officer. Following that, he served for 15 years on the Board of Directors.

Waldi loved to travel. He visited his brother in Poland every year for 14 years. Some of his travels took him to Germany and France, where he enjoyed a hot air balloon ride; and, most recently, Key West, where he went parasailing for the first time at the age of 91. He had already begun planning a trip for his 92 ^nd birthday where he was going to skydive.

When he was home, Waldi loved to garden and read. Waldi was a history enthusiast, especially European history, and was a wealth of knowledge. Waldi was an active member of the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem, NH.

Waldi was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Maria Erika, his brother Theodor Wasilewski of Poland, his sister Ruth Saviskas of Chicago, his sister Therese Ketzer of Germany, and his niece Susan Proctor of No Andover, MA. He is survived by his sister Irene Smith of Methuen, MA; nieces Nancy Cuticchia and her husband Joseph of Methuen, MA, Marlene Dupont and her husband Phil of Dracut, MA, Carolyn Furey and her husband Michael of Methuen, MA, Shelley Russell and her husband Paul of No Andover, MA, and Karin Fussey and her husband Michael of Germany; and nephew Harald Ketzer of Germany. Waldi also leaves many other friends and relatives; including his longtime friend; Jackie Ulbin.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, June 24 from 4-7pm at the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church, 171 Zion Hill Rd., Salem, NH. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at 11am, also at the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem, NH. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Waldi's memory to the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem, NH.
