Obituary

William Dill, 68, of Derry, NH passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 28th at Parkland Medical Center.

Bill grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem High School where he was active in his school’s environmental club before attending the University of New Hampshire, where he majored in hydrology.

Bill collected urban memorabilia and he enjoyed thrifting and had a love of clothes. As a member of the Youth Conservation Corps, he helped re-open the trails at Camp Dodge in Gorham, NH. A plaque honors the team that reopened the trails there; those trails are now used by the Appalachian Mountain Club and are the start of any work done in the White Mountains.

He worked several retail jobs, including in the office of the Mobil gas station in Salem. One day on the job, a woman became covered in gasoline that got into her eyes. Bill immediately went out to assist her. For his quick and compassionate response, he received an award for humanitarian service; his actions helped her retain her vision. Bill was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, NH.

Bill was a friend of Bill W. and was well supported by the Center for Life Management.

William was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Rita Dill, his brother Barry Dill and his nephew Nick Arvanitis.

Bill will be deeply missed by his brother Michael Dill and his wife Middy; his sister Maureen Arvanitis; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, his compassionate heart and soul, his care for the outdoors, and the quiet ways he helped others
