Alfred "Al" Savard, passed away at home, on Friday, November 4, 2016, with his family by his side; he was 82. Al was predeceased by his wife, Joan E. Ratcliffe. Mr. Savard was a long-time resident of Salem, NH. He was born in Lynn, MA on July 7, 1934, the son of Florence (Peterson) Savard. He received his early education in Methuen, MA and then served in the U.S. Air Force where he received an honorable discharge in December 1957. After serving in the military, Mr. Savard went to work for Raytheon. He was hired in the Publications department and was responsible for writing and editing technical manuals. He worked for Raytheon for 35 years in both the Andover and Burlington locations; he retired in 1992. After his retirement, he attended Southern New Hampshire University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Language. He was a life member of the BPOE #65 Lodge for forty-six years.
Al is pre-deceased by a brother, Lawrence Savard and a sister, Helen Crosslyn. He is survived by his sister in law, Carol Savard of Salem, NH; a brother Robert Savard of Andover MA; a sister Doris Ferretti and her husband Bruno of Sandwich, MA; and a brother Richard Savard and his wife Linda of Palmer, MA.
Al is also survived by stepdaughter Rhonda Grealish and her fiancé Christopher DeCaro of Middleboro MA; son Rick Savard and his wife Patricia of Katy, TX; and a daughter Susan Savard. Al is survived by many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, November 10, from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Salem, NH. Funeral Services will be at 12:30 PM Thursday, at the funeral home following the calling hours. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
